Missing Friends -  FRASER  -  007  
James Fraser, who in 1877 was constructing water races in the Malvern District.  In 1879 he was clerk to the Mt Somers Road Board  and then went to Australia.  Please address any information to G.L.Donaldson,  Art Gallery, Christchurch.

The Late Sir John Denniston  - 008
It is with very great regret we record the death of Sir John Denniston. only  17 monthe ago he retired from the Supreme Court bench ----  he was the senior judge on his retirement  ----   was presiding over over a Royal Commission after his retirement  -----

Obituary -  Sir John Denniston  -  010
Hon. Sir John Denniston died at his res. Cashmere Hills  on 22 July,  from penumonia following an attack of pleurisy.
Sir John was born at Bishopton, on the Clyde on 20 June 1845, was educated at the Greenock Academy and late Glasgow University.   His father the late Thos. Denniston  decided to come out to NZ with 3 of his sons,  one of whom was Sir John  at age 17, ---  arriving in Otago in 1862, Mr Denniston, sen took up a run in South,  and ------  eventually the Judge realised his ambition and became a law student with the late Hon.W.Downie Stewart M.L.C and was admitted to the Bar in 1874 -- practised for a little time in Wanganui,  rejoined Mr Mr Downie Stewart as a partner , another member of the firm being Mr Allan Holmes --- during the next 14 years  became a prominent and distinguished member of the Dunedin Bar --- on the death of Mr Justice Johnson in Christchurch in 1889,  Sir John was elevated to the Supreme Court Bench -- on 12 February 1917 His Majesty conferred on him  his knighthood  --- member of the Caledonian Society,   also Canterbury Society of Arts,   and Savage Club. ---- lots more ---

Death  -  SKINNER  -   011
At age 93 at New Plymouth on 24 July the relict of Mr Thos. Kingwell Skinner, who with her parents Mr and Mrs John Neale arr. at New Plymouth by the Amelia Thompson on 3 September 1841  from Holsworthy, Devon.  Mrs Skinner was then 16 years old. she was married in 1845, her husband died in 1874, she leaves 2 sons, Messrs T.K.  and W.H.Skinner  the latter being ex-Commissione of Crown Lands.  

Deaths  -  012
TIKINI   - at Mr Henare Parata's residence  Puketeraki on Saturday 19 July,   Ria Tikini who was 109 years of age.
LAURENT -  Mr R.M.M.J. Laurent of Hawera, died on 21 Julyaged 93 years. he was grandfather of Lieut. Laurant V.C.was formerly a Major in the French army.

Auckland -  Death  -  PELHAM -  013
Mrs Rebecca Louise Pelham, a very old identity of Auckland at the age of 70.  As a girl of 15 Mrs Pelham whose maiden name was Hardwick, arrived at Auckland from London 55 years ago.  2 years after her arrival Miss Hardwick married and with her husband was for a time in Taranaki.  When the Thames gold rush broke out, they tried their luck, eventually returning to Auckland where Mr Pelham opened the joinery business ---  she is survived by her hus.   4 daughters,  2 sons,  13 grandchildren  and 2 great grandchildren.

Wellington  -  Death  -  WALSH  -  014
Wellington's old settler Mrs George Walsh, until recently Mrs Whiteford, of Flagstaff Hill.  She died on 16 July at St Winnifred's Private Hosp.  Lower Hutt after an attack of pleurisy.  Mrs Walsh was the dau. of Mr and Mrs John Evans,  2 of Wellington's earliest pioneers who arrived  in the early 40's.  She was born in Wellington on 21 May 1849 and lived for 50 years in the home on Flagstaff Hill.  Her first husband pre-deceased her some 8 years ago.  Last May she was married to Mr George Walsh and his since lived in Lower Hutt.  She leaves a family of 5 - all married,
The sons are -  Messrs Charles Whiteford, Blenheim:  Archibald Whiteford, Wanganui:  
and daughters -  Mrs William Toomath, Aurora Tce, Wellington:  Mrs Charles Radcliffe, Karori:  Mrs Buxton Rogers, Palmeston North:  also 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Adjourned Inquest  -  BRANKIN    -  019  &  020  &  021
John Joseph Brankin, who was found dead lying on Wakanui road about half mile from his home at 2-30am of the 11th inst. was held at the Ashburton Courthouse on Saturday aft.  A.Fitzgerald, a contractor living in Wills st, Ashburton, gave evidence ---  Sergeant Ryan stated he spoke to Brankin about 10pm  ----  lad Brown was called, he had seen a man on the road -----  Norman Stephens, blacksmith, Ashburton,  was called   -------  Dr George Lyon who had made a post mortem examination was called   -----  Miss Brankin gave evidence   that her brother   ----    long column  ----  lots more ----
