Tuesday 4 May 1875

Ship -  Tintern Abbey  -  from London  - 006
a very long column  about the journey of the Tintern Abbey --- left London with 323 souls,   18 died, all being young children, except on e man named HITCHING who died from exhaustion after a severe attack of jaundice ------ passage of 114 days  ----  left on 7 Jan. the ship carried an aviary  with a very large number of birds for the Acclimatisation Society  ---   about 1000   birds  ---  partridges,  blackbirds,  starlings,  thrushes,  redpoles,  linnets,  100 each,  goldfinches,  110,  hedgesparrows,  140,  and 160 yellow-hammers. -----  long column  -------

SUNBEAM   -  CARTER -  007
Mr Joseph Carter, for many years a tide waiter in her Majesty's customs,  died suddenly in the cabin of the Sunbeam this afternoon,  while checking over the days work.  He laid his head on the cabin table and expired without movement.

The single girls came under the care of Mrs Friend,  matron, numbering 36. ----28 married families  and about 60 children  ----  Dr W.J.Davidson, Surgeon-Superintendant  ----  left Plymouth 1 February  ---   a very long column  about the voyage ------

Wellington  -    Arrival of Emigrant ship  Hindostan  from London -  042
after a passage of 101 days   with 190 immigrants,  all well.

Port Chalmers  -  Shipping    -  043
Arrived  -  City of Cashmere  after a voyage of 91 days ---- 24, 1st class passengers,  14 steerage,  James Irvine  jumped overboard on 28 Feb.  also arrived
Rosanna Rose,  from Boston USA  after a voyage of 145 days.
