Ship - Tintern Abbey - from

a very long column about the journey of the Tintern Abbey ---

London with 323 souls, 18 died, all being young children,
except on e
man named HITCHING who died from exhaustion after a severe attack of
jaundice ------ passage of 114 days ---- left on 7 Jan. the
ship
carried an aviary with a very large number of birds for the
Acclimatisation Society --- about 1000
birds --- partridges,
blackbirds, starlings, thrushes, redpoles,
linnets, 100 each,
goldfinches, 110, hedgesparrows, 140, and 160
yellow-hammers.

Mr Joseph Carter, for many years a tide waiter in her Majesty's
customs, died suddenly in the cabin of the Sunbeam this
afternoon,
while checking over the days work. He laid his head on the cabin
table and expired without movement.
