--- death of Captain John Gleadow, aged 75, he went
out to Australia about 40 years ago, in charge of the ship Rosebery -- came on to New Zealand during
the gold rush. On settling here was appointed Marine Survryor, -- held until 14 years ago. ------

Captain Marcel, Shipping Master at Lyttelton has received
inquiries from Shrewsbury, England as to the where-abouts of a
seaman named John D. Whelan
who left the ship Akaroa at Lyttelton on 5 April 1897, and has not been heard of since ---------

at the great age of 92. --- oldest of the Canterbury
pilgrims, arrived with her family at Lyttelton in

Napier - CORNFORD - 075
The death is announced of Rev. P.H.Cornford, father of Mr
H.A.Cornford, a local barrister, aged 83. He entered
the Baptist Church as a missionary in 1840, arrived in New
Zealand in 1861. He had charge of the Wellesley Street
Church, Auckland until 1877 when he went to Sydney. he came
to Napier in 1880
and founded a branch of the Baptist Church there.

1878 and 10 years later he went to Sydney --- believing him
to be dead, she married again in 1895, her 1st husband
turned up again unexpectedly recently after an absence of 13
years and sued his eldest son for maintenance -------
Death - WHYTE - 080
Flags were hoisted at half mast today at Lyttelton railway station and
in the town --- death of Mr James Whyte, a much respected member of the
railway staff
who -- died this morning.
