Mr James Triggs------  at age 82  was a very old colonist,  having arrived with his wife by the Clontarf  in 1858.  --- native of Suffolk, England, 
where he married   -------   leaves a widow  and 1 son.  Mr Robert Triggs -----  another son died a few years ago ----- funeral today  largely attended.

with his family  -----  for some years farmed at Kaiapoi  --- for 10 years he taught in schools  at  -----   founded chess club at Kaiapoi  --  in 1870
 won the  chess championship of Canterbury ----   funeral  at Papanui Churchyard  on Saturday ----

The Hon. W.D.Stewart  was born at Blairdrummond,  near Stirling,  Scotland  on 15 May 1842.  At 19 years of age  came to New Zealand  ----  
resumed his study of law ----     12 June 1867  admitted to the bar ----  in 1879  elected a member of the House of Representaives for Dunedin
 ------  in 1875 he visited Great Britain  --------
