Mr Harry Allwright,  ex MHR,  and Mrs Allwright  were passengers  by the steamship Rimutaka,  which arrived in Lyttelton yesterday.

2 boys,  about 9 years old,  were in a canoe  on the Maingawera Creek,  Taupiri,  on Sunday,  when their boat upset.  one named Stubbin  swam ashore 
the other lad Andrew Haddo,  ----  drowned.

A man named John Doran  was yesterday  morning  received into the hospital ----   he lingered until 6pm  when he died  was 40 years of age,  married,
 his family living on the Peninsula,  an inquest will be held.

an elderly man named William Hull,  foreman of works for Mr J.Goss,  fell from a window upstairs  of the house being erected for Mr W.D.Meares
on the Papanui Road,   ----  more  ----

Rangitata Island  -  KING  -  026
   ----   a shearer named King.  while working in a shed at Rangitata island  ----   he died in the evening.

Inquest -  Mrs KING  -  027
inquest was held at West Eyreton ----   death of Mrs Thomas King ----     death came by working after a heavy meal.  Death by natural causes.

BENNETT -  a boy named Steven Bennett,  employed at the Kaiapoi Woollen Factory,  had some fingers  badly crushed in a spinning machine --- 
amputate 2 fingers ---

John Doran ----     had been low spirited for some time and suffered from rheumatics ------

Mr Josiah White,  traveller  to Messrs Cook?   and Co.  --- died last night  aged 69.

COPPIN  -  Thomas  was charged with failing to provide for Fanny Coppin  and her 3 children aged 7, 6 and 3   -----   within the last few days money was provided so charges were dismissed.

Oamaru  -  Earl of SEAFIELD  -       034
The funeral of the late Earl of seafield  took place today ----   the procession was the largest that was attended here ---- was buried in the Presbyterian
portion of the burial ground  and the service was read by the Church of England clergyman.

Funeral at Waddington  -  HIGHT  -  037
The funeral of Miss Clara Hight,  the young lady who died suddenly on Tuesday last,  took place on Thursday.  --------  interred at waddington Cemetery
-- cortege one of the largest in the district.

Auckland  -  POOK  -  038
Mr and Mrs Pook,  who have been murdered at Mataheo,  belonged to the Raglan district.  Mrs Pook was a daughter of the late Captain SWAN,  of Raglan 
and niece of Captain FAIRCHILD,  the commander of the government steamer Stella.  The wife of Mr Duncan,  Auckland,  is a sister of Mrs Pook.

Fatality  -  BROWN  -  040
on Saturday night a Mrs Brown of Woolston  reported her son Joseph  aged 11 years    ---  had been drowned in the Heathcote River  ---  the boys
MADDERN and Joseph MOSES  saw Brown paddling in the river in a canoe ------   body not yet found.

Sudden Death  -  COCHRANE  -  042
on Monday 10 Dec. the death occurred at the Prebbleton Railway Station,  Mr Peter Cochrane  about 34 years of age,  unmarried ------    about 6mths ago  he became the recipient of a perodical remittance   which had rendered work unnecessary  ---   native of Glasgow  --- an inquest will be held in due course.

-- Robert Brown,  who drowned in the Heathcote river  ----    John Clarkson,  bridgekeeper at Woolston  found the body  on Tuesday evening,  Joseph
Moses  a lad of 16 years  --------  Margaret Brown,  wife of John Brown  and mother of the deceased ----   verdict  accidently drowned.

---  Mr W.H.S.Moorhouse,  only son of the late William Sefton Moorhouse  was married to Miss Jessie Hunter,  youngest daughter of Mr George Hunter,

DENNIS     -  John,  while playing in the school ground  fell and broke his leg above the knee  ---
GARDINER  -  Joseph,  died was badly injured  by the collapse of machinery  last Monday -- an inquest will be held.

at St Ambrose Church,  Sheffield  a special service was held  on Sunday afternoon,  being the funeral service in memory of the late Miss Clara Hight
 ------ the church was crowded ---  Miss Kane of Springfield  played the harmonium.

A fatal boat accident ------  an old identity Gearge Nesbitt  and 3 boys  Claude and Gordon Morgan  and Edward Eaton?  ---  fishing  -- the 3 boys
were washed ashore safe,  George never recovered conciousness ----

Wedding  -  DEWDNEY  -  SAYERS  -  062
  ----  marriage of Rev A. Dewdney,  pastor of the Lincoln road Baptist church    to Miss Elizabeth Sayers,  -- just arrived from England. ---  
The bridegroom's best man  was  Mr F. Dixon  --- bride was attended by Miss Marriner  and Miss Nellie Hill  (Dixon)  ----

on the barque Castleton  from Calcutta,  on 28 October  able seaman  Robert Messiah   died from liver complaint.

This morning 2 officers of the salvation Army,  Captains James Wilson  and Jenny Geraty,  were married  ---  at the Oddfellows Hall, Sydenham. ----  more ---

Mr Alexander Livingstone,  ----------    Chief Postmaster here for last 2 and half years -- at one time held a commission in the French Army ---  a native
 of Paris --- was one of the best musicians in the colony ---   funeral takes place at 7am tomorrow  and will be conducted with Masonic honours.

Plucky Rescue  -  TEAGUE,   STREAKLY  -  070
the brave action of a lad in rescuing another from drowning  is reported from Sheffield.  W. Streakly  and W/ Teague  were bathing in a waterhole --- 
 W. Teague lost conciousness  and Streakly   brought him safely to the bank  -------

Fatal Accident  -  HIGGINS  -  072
A child named Higgins was killed by the overturning of a cart at Cardrona  on Saturday.  Mrs Higgins was severely injured.

Auckland  - WILLIAMS    -   073
Captain Williams,  one of the passengers by the Maraoa  from the south  died suddenly on board ----  was well-known in Auckland  ----  returned to the
Colony  in the Coptic  from a visit to England,  where he went for an operation  for his eyesight.

Mr Samuel Gibbs,  of Woodend,  whilst mowing yesterday,  trod on the edge of a ditch and the bank gave way  ---   his left hand was severely cut across
by the scythe ----

Drowned at Taylor's Mistake  -  O'MALLEY  -  082
a party of lads went fishing at Taylor's Mistake,  one of them age 10  son of Charles O'Malley ---  the deceased,  4 sons of Mr J. Bamford,  a youth named
Piercy,  son of Mr Piercy,  grocer of Christchurch were together ---    Piercy saw the accident to O'Malley and jumped in to save the boy

W.C.Scott, a second cabin passenger on the Ruapehu   died on board on 8 December.
