NEILL - 043
-- an old settler and digger one of the pioneers of the
Otago goldfields ------ was followed by a large concourse
of mourners to the Addington Cemetery.
Mr George Neill had lived a somewhat adventerous life. A
native of County Cavan. Ireland, came to Victoria in the "Great Britain" ----
after participating
in the Snowy river rush, he went to Otago in the ship "Blue Jacket" ---
worked on diggings in Otago and Westland ---- finally
settled in Lyttelton. 9 years
ago suffered a paralytic stroke --- lived with his
son Mr John Neill at the Caledonian Hotel where he
died on Friday morning aged 69 years. --------
