a man named Morgan  and his step-son were drowned yesterday by capsizing of a boat at Whangarei heads.

Killed by a tree  -  Fielding  -  
-----  a woman walking along the Oroua river,  near Fielding,  heard a piteous moaning ------  on river bank discovered a horse lying on the ground
with a tree on top of him. On the opposite side lay the rider ------  was quite dead.  ------------

On Wednesday afternoon  -- Mrs John Pope of Lyttelton --- were down at Sandy Bay ---------    child in difficulty,  Mrs Pope also went into the
water to rescue her child--- assisted rendered by a lad named G. BUCHANAN,  who seeing the occurrence bought  both mother
and child safely to shore.

Janet Skirving,  a married woman in the employ of Mr M.C. ORBELL of Matanaka,  while washing the floor of a room,  expired in the act of scrubbing.  --------

Captain James Skene,  formerly of Sandhurst, -----  died this morning.  Captain FRASER is now the only surviving officer of the  contingent raised in
 Victoria for New Zealand.

REINECKER  -  Mr Bernhard Henry Reinecker  who expired at Port of Spain -- aged 44 years  Auditor-Generalship of Trinidad has become vacant
by his death ------  emigrated to Canterbury  became Justice of the Peace  --- in February 1875 was appointed auditor of the Gold Coast colony, 
and about 2 years ago was transferred to Trindad  in succession to Mr E.J.EAGLES
