This line will be officially opened next Wednesday, 100 invitations have been issued for the luncheon, to be held at the end of the line about 1pm  ------

McINTYRE  -  a sailor belonging to the barque Southern Cross,  arrested drunk and refusal of duty ----
SULLIVAN  -  and
KING  -  2 seamen  of the ship Lactura, arrested and fine 20s each  for drunk and fighting in the public streets.

NANCARROW  -  a lad  and
EMPSON -  a lad playing in among timber in Mr Brown's yard,  a pile fell burying the boys,  ------ rescued  with injuries only to their faces -------

Northern Railway  -  Ashley to Balcairn  -  004
This line opened yesterday, ---------  the Balcairn station is 2 and half miles from Leithfield  -------

Port Chalmers  -  Death  -  005
SMITH  -  Alfred,  coupling some loaded trucks from the ship Zealandia, got his foot caught in one of the check rails on the Bowen Pier --- died 15 mins later ----

Sudden Death  -  006
BARNES  -  Francis,   found lying lifeless in a water-closet attached to the Empire Hotel  ---------  an inquest will be held ----

Lyttelton  -  Court    -  007
WALSH -  Richard,   ------ sent to the Naval Training School  for 8 years.
WILLIAMS  -  Grace Isabella,  aged 7 years  ----   neglected child,  sent to Burnham Indistrial School.

A unknown body found yesterday in the Avon River by the boatsheds,  about 30 years old,  5ft 8.  brown hair, whiskers and moustache ---- an inquest will be held

 8 August --  one man overboard --  a James Whealan  was rescued -----  immigrants number 189 and 2 saloon passengers.  -- lots more ----

FABLIN -  a young man,  was knocked down at the racecourse,  ----    now recovering  was for 3 days insensible ----

Arrival  -  Himalaya  -   from London  -  020
Matron  Mrs Warnes  in charge of 37 girls ----  single men number 40,  and 28 families ----  left Plymouth 27 July ----  more  -----

Accident  at Oxford  -  021
MOUNSEY -  last Tuesday  a lad named Mounsey  drove an axe through his foot ----   cutting wood in Oxford Bush ------
