Moeraki Downs  -  Fire  -  EARLY  -  03
a fire occurred on  Saturday night in the stable of Mr S. Early,  Moeraki Downs ----    who helped  among whom are
Messrs MESSANT, McPHEE,  and BOWICK.

the number of births registered in the Christchurch district for the month ending December 31st
Births -    88  -  49  males   and 39 females.
Deaths  -  21  -  13 males  and 8 females
Marriages  -  18 
the numbers for the corresponding month of 1870  were
87,  28   and 16.


Tuesday  16 January  1872
Fire  -  CARDALL  -  08
----  fire at Mr A. Cardall's homestead,  Lawford,  near Templeton  on Sunday.  --  Mr Bailey's men had been  --- threshing some grass seed,  
--cook left some live embers  --- ran on to the stacks,  destroying 800  or 1000  bushels of seed,  Mr Bailey's combine elevators etc.  ---

Fire  -  BARNARD  -  09
about 10 o'clock last night screams were heard --- from a house occupied by a Mrs Barnard,  in Taylor's lane  off Madras street north,
---  possible injuries will prove fatal.--------

Mr McCabe,  the sacristan  of the Catholic Church  and Mrs McCabe,  minister's housekeeper,  about to leave Christchurch  ---- 
presenting them with a silver tea and coffee service and salver  ------

A presentation was  made at the Ladie's College St Asaph street,  west  to Mrs Deighton ----  by parents of pupils recently attending
her school in Lichfield street.   -----  more

Accident  -  BURNS  -  14
a man named Gregory Burns  in the employ of Mr Burrell,  East town belt,  met with a serious accident  whilst leading a horse attached
to a reaping machine ----   conveyed to hospital  - no bones fractured -   now doing well.


Wednesday  24 January  1872
Accident  -  FREESTON  -  15
a serious accident occurred at Moffatt's Mill,  Lincoln,  to a young man named Freeston,  who used to be employed as a clerk at Wood's Mill, 
Christchurch,  ---amputate leg below the knee ----  now doing well.

Leithfield  -  GREEN  -  17
a case of accidental poisoning  ---  to a man named Robert Green,  a groom in the employ of Messrs Sansom and Co.  -----   more.
