Mr Francis Jollie, of Mount Peel, died yesterday.
--- Mr Jollie was one of the leading pioneers of
settlement
on New Zealand, having 1st resided in the
Nelson province. He was one time Nelson Agent for the New
Zealand
Company ------- for many years a member of the
General Assembly ------ farm
at Wakapuwaku --- was also the
first cultivator of the hop in New Zealand ------

HERRICK

--- near Tai-Tapu -- Mrs J.J.Herrick was driving
out with her 4 children, the horse shied at a
quantity of timber lying on the road --- with great presence
of mind threw out 2 of her children, one a
baby
and herself sprung to the head of the horse which she
contrived
to hold till neighbours came to her
assistance ------ had the horse gone 2 feet
more to one side ------- might have all been killed.
