YOUNGMAN - 016
on Tuesday --- the house of Mr E.B.Youngman was
discovered to be on fire. No one being in the house at the
time ------ in less than
10 min the roof fell in -- a subscription list has been opened and
numerously signed to recompense Mr Youngman for his loss.

Fatal Accident - 022
on Friday afternoon 3 shepherds employed by Mr
McLean, South Rakaia, mustering sheep on the
island
prior to shearing --- William Carson
slipped from his horse which had swerved going through
quicksand and was drowned. left a wife and family
--- not such a fresh in the Rakaia
for 3 years ---- body not yet recovered.

2 fatal accidents are reported to have
occurred at Bryan's ferry, near the gorge of the river Selwyn.
McFARLANE -
Malcolm attempted to ford it on
horseback on Christmas Day but was carried away by the
stream and not been seen since ---
DOBBIE -
William, on the following morning one
of the ferrymen, to cross a mob of sheep also
drowned -- no bodies have been found yet.

- G.W.Brown was charged with deserting his wife
and
family, left
her about 3 mths ago ------ dismissed the case -------
