Inquest  -  BEATTIE  -   006
held at Miners' Arms,  Coal Track ----  J. Beattie, a farmer, residing at the Courtenay Township -- found dead in the river bed  where his trap
had evidently capsized ------   witnesses    were    -  
Simon McRae  -  I keep the Miners' Arms Hotel ---   
George Robinson  - I live on the Coal Track  was going across the river bed yesterday when I saw the wheels of the trap ------
Constable Joseph Judge  -  
Courtney Nedwill -    medical practioner  -----

held at the Heathcote Arms Hotel ----   Thomas Moncrieff  been found drowned on the mud flat at the mouth of the Avon.-----   witnesses  -

Charles Walker -   I went with last witness  to help search for him ------

Fire at Oxford  -  YOUNGMAN  -  016
on Tuesday  ---  the house of Mr E.B.Youngman  was discovered to be on fire.  No one being in the house at the time  ------  in less than
10 min the roof fell in -- a subscription list has been opened and numerously signed to recompense Mr Youngman for his loss.

Fatal Accident  -  022
on Friday afternoon  3 shepherds  employed by Mr McLean,  South Rakaia,  mustering sheep on the island  prior to shearing ---   William Carson 
slipped from his horse  which had swerved going through quicksand  and was drowned.  left a wife  and family ---    not such a fresh in the Rakaia
for 3 years ----  body not yet recovered.

McKENZIE -  Robert  -   similar order was made
WOODFORD  -  James,  meeting of creditors to take place 2 January.
COX  -  Samuel,  deceased,  order for grant of probate  to the widow  of the deceased.


Monday 28 December  1868
Fatalaties  -  026   -      2 fatal accidents are reported to have occurred at Bryan's ferry, near the gorge of the river Selwyn.
McFARLANE  -  Malcolm  attempted to ford it  on horseback on Christmas Day  but was carried away by the stream  and not been seen since ---
DOBBIE  -  William,  on the following morning  one of the ferrymen,  to cross a mob of sheep   also drowned  -- no bodies have been found yet.

Desertion  -  027
BROWN
  -    G.W.Brown was charged with deserting his wife and family,  left her about 3 mths ago  ------  dismissed the case -------

PERCIVAL  -  John Henry,  infant, aged about 7 or 8mths.  ------      son of an unmarried female  ---   died from natural causes -------

Mr W. McCormack  of Sumner, --- was returning on horseback from Christchurch ----  horse bolted  ----  thrown by horse ----   died instantaneously.

Thomas Yates  -  a shoemaker ,  ---  lived with me as housekeeper ----   long  testimony ----
Thomas Wallace  -  chemist  and druggist  in the Triangle ----
