Protection of Earnings  - 002
GREEN -  Selina E.J.Green apllied to have her earnings protected from her husband John William Green,  neither party appeared,  case dismissed.

MEROPE  -  Immigrants for Timaru  - 003
The Timaru Herald states that the Immigration Officer at Timaru,  Mr Le Cren,  received by the Suez mail the following summary of the trades and occupations of the immigrants  per ship Merope  which sailed from Plymouth for Timaru on 30 June.
farm labourers  - 61,     general labourers  -  25,     navvies -  4,    shepherds  - 3,     carpenters - 7,      joiners - 1,    sawyers - 3,    blacksmiths - 4,

DAVIS -  a photographer,  son of Mr Davis,  photographer, Melbourne.  He leaves a wife and 3 children  jumped overboard the s.s.Hawea.

SNELL -  a child aged 4mths, belonging to Mr Snell, lives on the Sandhills, near the South Waimakariri railway bridge,  died suddenly, an inquest will be held.

CALVERT -  Councillor,  to be presented with  a silver tea and coffee service,  in recognition of the number of years he has served as a Municipal officer.

HURSE -  Mr of Kaiapoi,  occupied by Mr Hurse sold  for 190 pounds
RINGWOOD - Mr,  7 roomed house and land in Barbadoes st sold to Mr NEEDHAM  for 625 pounds.

PENNY -  Mr  a miller at Irwell,  with his wife and child ------horse kicked   all occupants were tipped out in aheap at the back,  no one seriously hurt ----

WALLIN  -  a fireman, was drowned today swimming off to a boat that was anchored out.
